Microsoft 365: Group Creation Disabled and Impact on Microsoft Services

Environment

Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams

Issue

I received the following error message: "(Plan and) Microsoft 365 Group Creation Disabled. You are not a member of an existing group. To create a new Microsoft 365 Group, contact your organization's global admin." What should I do?

Resolution

Group creation for the ITS-managed instance of Microsoft 365 is currently managed through creating a team in Microsoft Teams. Learn more about creating a team in the ITS-managed instance of Teams.

Microsoft products, such as Microsoft Planner, that rely on group creation/membership will require a team to be created in Microsoft Teams before continuing. Please note that the full functionality of the product may not be available due to this dependency.
