Large Scale Changes to MCommunity Groups

Summary

Large scale membership changes of MCommunity groups to be performed by IAM to prevent performance issues with MCommunity

Body

While it is programmatically possible to make large scale changes to MCommunity groups, e.g. adding many members, ITS Identity Management (IAM) requires large changes be managed through IAM. Large number of changes to a single group can cause performance degradation for all users of MCommunity. For the purposes of this knowledge base article, any membership changes in excess of 500 members are considered large-scale.

If making a large scale email group change, please reach out to IAM via an ITS Help Ticket.

Note that for large scale membership changes:

  • Typically provided as a plain text file of the uniqnames, one per line, to be added to a group, zipped and submitted with the ticket to IAM.
  • Historically changes have been broken up into multiple 870 lines/members at a time.
  • IAM will run as updates occur in off hours only. Bruce Timberlake of ITS - IAM has been point of contact
