Canvas: SpeedGrader Link Disabled in Assignment

Issue

In the Assignment the SpeedGrader link is disabled. The instructor must first Select Group to Grade to enable the link, however there aren't any groups and therefore there is nothing to select from the dropdown.

Resolution

There is a course setting that enables this behavior. To disable it, navigate to the course > Settings > Course Details tab > uncheck Launch Speedgrader filtered by student group > click the Update Course Details button to save.

In large courses with several Teachers and TAs it is useful to have this enabled to view a subset of student submissions for easier grading. To use the setting, create groups in the People tool and add students.
