Dark Mode for U-M Google Calendar, Gmail, Photos, Drive, and Chrome

Issue

Locating the option to enable Dark Mode for U-M Google services that feature dark mode as a native option.

Resolution

Mail

You can locate this setting for Gmail on the settings menu:

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. At the top right, click Settings.
  3. In the “Quick settings” menu, go to the “Theme” section.
  4. Next to "Theme," click View all.
  5. In the theme window, select a theme.
    1. For the default theme, select Dark.
  6. Click Save.

Calendar, Drive, Photos, Chrome

Adjusting Dark Mode for Google Calendar, Drive, Photos, and Chrome follows the same path, beginning in the settings menu for the service:

  1. On your computer, open Google Calendar, Drive, Photos, or Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click Settings menu and locate Appearance in the menu on the left.
  3. In the “Appearance” window, select Mode
    1. In the dropdown box next to Mode, select Dark.
  4. To apply the changes, click Done.
