Microsoft 365: Applications Rebranded to Microsoft 365 Copilot

Environment

U-M Microsoft 365

Issue

  • Why is my Microsoft 365 app called "Microsoft 365 Copilot" now?
  • Does this mean Copilot has access to my account?

Resolution

On January 15, 2025, Microsoft rebranded the Microsoft 365 (Office) app to the "Microsoft 365 Copilot" app across the web, mobile devices (iOS, Android), and Windows/Mac computers. This rebrand also includes an updated icon. (Refer to the screenshot attached to this article for the new look.)

This change is in name and icon only. Access to Microsoft Copilot AI services is still restricted for U-M accounts. However, ITS provides Generative AI services that are available to the university community.
