Slack: Unable to Accept Slack Connect Invitations Error

Environment

U-M Slack, Slack Connect

Issue

After receiving a Slack Connect invitation from an external organization, attempting to accept the invite through a workspace leads to the following error:

Unable to accept Slack Connect invitations

Your admins haven't shared the permission required to accept Slack Connect invitations. You may want to ask an admin for help.

Who are my admins?

Resolution

This error occurs when you try to accept the invitation through a workspace where you're a member, but not a Workspace Admin (such as the Maize & Blue workspace or a general department workspace).

There are two options to resolve the issue:

  1. Ask the person/organization inviting you to invite you as a guest instead of through Slack Connect.
  2. Create a U-M Slack workspace and ask the external person/organization to resend the invitation if the original invitation no longer works. When you create a new workspace, you're automatically set up as the workspace admin, which grants you to the permission to accept the Slack Connect invitation.
